What is Scalp Micropigmentation?

Something that makes thinning hair or bald patches difficult to hide is the difference in color between your scalp and hair. Elysium SurgiSpa performs scalp micropigmentation (SMP) to minimize this contrast so that your hair looks thicker and fuller. Ideal if your hair is shaved or short, our team in Chicago, IL utilizes scalp micropigmentation to assist men and women with pattern baldness and other varieties of hair loss. Done alone or along with other restorative treatments, such as FUE (follicular unit extraction) or FUT (follicular unit transplantation), SMP is a nonsurgical procedure to improve the overall look of your hair. To find out more about SMP, schedule an appointment in Chicago, IL.

How does Scalp Micropigmentation work?

Scalp micropigmentation is a safe and effective procedure completed in our state-of-the-art Chicago, IL facility. The pigment is matched to the color of your hair and applied directly into the scalp, creating thousands of little stipples (pigmented dots) that mimic the look of your natural follicles. Since the pigment does not go into your skin as deep as traditional tattooing, pain is minimal. However, to help you feel comfortable, a numbing cream can be applied to your scalp prior to the treatment. To provide you long-lasting results that look natural, we recommend 3 – 4 treatments. Each treatment should be scheduled about 7 – 10 days apart. Your first two treatments will require a longer time (about 2 – 4 hours each). The rest of your appointments should be shorter (approximately 45 minutes to two hours).

Following your SMP treatments, you can go back to work or your normal activities. You might have some redness or irritation on your scalp for 1 – 3 days after each treatment. It is important to keep your scalp clean and protected from UV (ultraviolet) rays with sunscreen or a hat. You will have to avoid strenuous activities (such as exercise) so that the sweat glands on your scalp do not impact the pigmentation. Chemicals (like chlorine in pools) also need to be avoided since they can impact your results. After your final treatment, it will take about a month for the pigment to fade to its final color and blend into your hair.

Scalp Micropigmentation FAQ

How much does scalp micropigmentation cost?

The exact price of scalp micropigmentation will vary from patient to patient, depending on their specific circumstances. During your initial consultation, our staff will listen to your goals and perform an in-depth analysis of your scalp before devising a custom treatment plan. At this point, we can also provide you with a detailed cost estimate.

Does scalp micropigmentation regrow hair?

Unfortunately, scalp micropigmentation is not able to regrow hair. However, it can give patients the appearance of having a tight buzz-cut. For this reason, our staff usually recommends for patients to keep their hair shorter, which will create more natural-looking results.

How long does scalp micropigmentation last?

Typically, scalp micropigmentation can last for up to about eight years. These results will fade, however, as the skin surrounding the scalp continues to exfoliate. Patients are encouraged to schedule maintenance appointments every few years to ensure their results continue to look their absolute best.

Better-Looking Hair
