What is Microneedling?

Elysium SurgiSpa is proud to offer microneedling, a process that punctures tiny holes in the skin on your face, neck, or torso to stimulate skin restoration. As an extra benefit, your own platelet-rich plasma (PRP) may be applied to the same region to help tissue heal and permit the skin to grow new cells. Both of these procedures together can lessen the appearance of scars, fine lines, wrinkles, spots, and other skin issues. The feel of your skin can be significantly enhanced to look smoother and more even without damaging the epidermis. If you'd like to learn more about microneedling with or without PRP, schedule a private consultation at our office in Chicago, IL.

  • Reduction of hyperpigmentation from scarring, age, sun spots, and rosacea
  • Anti-aging components that reduce the severity of signs of aging, like fine lines and wrinkles
  • Affordable laser alternative that addresses many of the same concerns as higher-end treatments
  • Ideal treatment option for patients of any age or skin tone

Am I A Candidate For Microneedling?

You could benefit from microneedling in Chicago, IL at Elysium SurgiSpa if you experience slight or moderate skin problems, like wrinkles and lines, a decrease in elasticity, imperfections, or rough skin texture. Microneedling procedures can also reduce the look of pores, stretch marks, and scars. You should be willing to wait a while before seeing the maximum results of your microneedling procedure because collagen and elastin require time to have a noticeable effect on the skin; however, you will see natural-looking results and gain healthier overall skin with a brighter, more radiant complexion. People with an active infection, acne, or unhealed wounds may not be a candidate for microneedling. During your consultation, we will examine your skin and review any relevant medical history to ensure microneedling is right for you.

How Is Microneedling Performed?

Microneedling is ideal to address dry skin, uneven skin tone, rough texture, age spots, wrinkles, acne, and scarring. During your treatment at Elysium SurgiSpa, your skin will be cleaned before the rolling handpiece is evenly passed over. Once the microneedling is done, a treatment, such as PRP or a vitamin-infused serum, can be applied so the nutrients can penetrate deeper into the skin. The small needles used will not damage your skin but instead will help stimulate collagen production. If you are adding PRP, we will take a small sample of your blood from your arm prior to your treatment. The blood will be spun through a centrifuge machine to separate platelet-rich plasma before the solution is applied to your skin during your microneedling session.

What to Expect Following Microneedling

Following the procedure, you might develop mild redness and swelling for about one day, but this should subside naturally. It may take around 1 – 2 months as the collagen and elastin supply increases before you see significant changes in the health and appearance of your complexion. You should schedule about 4 – 6 maintenance sessions every 4 – 6 weeks for ideal results and long-lasting skin benefits.

Microneedling FAQ

Can I combine other treatments with microneedling?
In the process of microneedling, channels are made in your skin that make it easier for treatments to reach the lower layers. This is why microneedling is frequently combined with other treatments, like special serums or PRP. Microneedling with PRP is more commonly known as a Vampire Facial®. During your initial consultation, a team member at Elysium SurgiSpa can discuss what treatments would enhance your microneedling plan and fit your skin goals.

How many treatments are recommended for optimal results?
Typically, patients receive 3 – 6 microneedling sessions to see their ideal results. However, the number of treatments you require will depend on your goals and your skin condition. Microneedling can be performed safely every 4 – 6 weeks. In your consultation, a member of the Elysium SurgiSpa team can estimate the number of treatments you will need after assessing your skin and listening to your goals. Once you have reached your goal, we suggest getting touch-up sessions every six months.

Should I get microneedling with PRP or injectable wrinkle treatments?
While microneedling with PRP delivers long-term results and strengthens the treated skin, different treatments produce faster results. Based on your concerns, you might want microneedling with PRP alone or you might get it with an injectable wrinkle treatment, such as BOTOX®, Restylane®, or JUVÉDERM®. During your initial consultation with your esthetician, they will develop your personalized treatment plan to fit all your concerns and goals.

How much does microneedling cost?
In your initial consultation, Dr. Singh will evaluate your skin and then develop your personalized plan. From there, he will explain your costs and the procedure process. Elysium SurgiSpa frequently offers discounts on treatment packages, so ask about our current deals during your appointment.

What exactly is microneedling?
Microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment to tighten and rejuvenate your skin. Collagen is a fibrous protein that helps keep your skin smooth, supple, and tight. Eventually, your natural supply of collagen is depleted, and your skin becomes thin and less elastic. Microneedling causes tiny wounds in your skin. These micro-injuries force your skin to increase its collagen production and generate new skin cell growth. After a short recovery period, your skin appears healthier, firmer, and brighter.

Is microneedling safe for everyone?
In general, microneedling is appropriate for all skin tones and types. Skin injuries created by microneedling are so minor there are rarely side effects afterward. Microneedling can be applied to most areas of skin, including the arms, face, neck, chest, thighs, and calves. Microneedling isn't recommended if you have used Accutane within the last 2 – 3 months, plus if you have an active skin infection, open wound, or herpes simplex. Additionally, you may not be a candidate for microneedling if you are nursing, pregnant, or undergoing radiation therapy.
